I came to know Basia Bulat a few years ago, when my friend took me to her performance at Groninger Museum. Sometimes it’s just so nice to not know who you are going to see and be surprised, and that is exactly what happened that evening. I was amazed of her great voice, her ability to play different instruments (autoharp, organ, guitar to name a few) and vibrant personality. A couple of weeks ago Basia Bulat was back in The Netherlands, promoting her latest album Good Advice, released last February. The concert was at Grand Theatre Groningen, which was a great location, giving the performance that intimate vibe.
Besides the absolute cool venues she picks to perform, hearing her beautiful voice is always a delight. To me her voice reminds me of an old soul, soothing, with emotions seeping through, but always with a cheerful edge to it. You might think she’s just a petite, pretty girl, but this girl stands her ground, with her musical talent and ability to connect with her audience with charm and humor.
The new album Good Advice was written after a fading relationship and gave her the chance to write songs, putting in all her feelings and emotions as artists do. The array of instruments that makes the Basia Bulat sound, gives her fans her recognizable sounds and style. Listening to her songs, leaves you no other choice than wander off with her on her journey.
Along with a couple of songs of previous albums the concert was a great experience, and reminded me again of how strong her live performances are. She is still on her international tour, so check out her website for tour dates and locations near you!
