Food Reviews

Gustatio has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants in Groningen. Being a city where most of the time, you can get into a restaurant without a reservation, we’d like to warn you in advance. The restaurant located at Oosterstraat, near Grote Markt, is not that big, and while it’s gaining popularity, please make reservations to avoid disappointment, because just a casual walk in, won’t cut it.

So let us tell you why Gustatio is such a popular place. Italian food is loved, anywhere you go. But don’t expect pizza and other Italian main course favorites, as found in many places around town. Sure they have a selection of great appetizers (do try the Bruschetta and Antipesto misto), but the main stars are the high quality delicious pasta with its true Italian flavors . And If you prefer to eat gluten-free, just mention this to the friendly staff and they’ll replace normal pasta with gluten-free pasta for you with a small surcharge.

Our personal favorites are the Spaghetti di Mare and Ravioli Carciofi, but I always wish there could be a tasting of different dishes, because choosing off the menu is difficult! Once you’ve made a choice, have a nice glass of wine or a Peroni to go with it, sit back and as soon that big plate of delicious looking pasta is being served, let that fragrance and flavor take you back to that time when you enjoyed the authentic Italian cuisine in that little restaurant located in one of those narrow streets near a grande piazza somewhere in Rome….
