Product Highlight: Nectarine

A very popular stone fruit so we just had to make the Nectarine this week’s Product Highlight. A good snack, but so delicious in salads and smoothies too! Next time you grab one from your fruit basket, think of all the nutritional benefits you’re biting into!

Product Highlight: Nectarine

  • The nectarine is actually a variation of the peach (Prunus persica var. nectarine), but has a smooth and shiny skin
  • Nectarines contain potassium, calcium and phosphorus. Phosphorus is an essential mineral which helps in the formation of strong teeth and bones and assists in the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats
  • A nectarine can be a great snack after your workout, as it is replenishing and contains protein that helps to restore muscle tissue

Product Highlight: Nectarine

  • This fruit has a great amount of antioxidants with a good amount of polyphenols, vitamin C and carotenoids such as beta-carotene. Eat a nectarine with skin, while the skin has a higher concentration of nutrition as compared to the pulp
  • Fruit is known to contain sugar, but nectarines contains bioactive compounds such as anthocyanins and chlorogenic acid which can help reduce weight
  • Nectarines contain lutein, which encourages eye health and helps reduce the risk (age-related) cataract

Tip: Select nectarines that are firm and free from bruises. Eat them as quickly as possible, because they tend to perish under high temperature

Tip: Keep unripe nectarines in a paper bag at room temperature to speed up the ripening process
