Our Top 5 ‘New on Netflix’ – June ’17

June 9, 2017

We’ve been very busy the last couple of weeks, which is why binge-watching Netflix series is something we haven’t done for a while. However, since a couple of our favourite series are back, we are going to put “Netflix time” on top of our list of priorities. Find out what’s new on Netflix and check out our top picks for this month!

House of Cards – Season 5, 30 May 2017

“One nation, Underwood”. Did you see the trailer? Oh right, you’ve probably already watched the entire season last week. Season 5 was released on May 30th and I can’t believe I didn’t get around watching it! What is President Underwood up to? How far will he and Claire go in order to win the election? How many people have to die for Underwood to remain the head of the country. The trailers indicate the President doesn’t have any plans to conceit defeat. And, I look forward to finding out how everything will unfold.

Orange Is The New Black – Season 5, June 9 2017

Season 4 ended with all the inmates urging Daya to shoot Humphrey. They had enough. The COs are on a power trip that cost the life of Poussey. Yet, no one is held accountable for it. In addition to the prison getting more crowded and the limited number of supplies, it was only a matter of time that all ethnic groups came together to start a protest. And, today we’re finally going to find out if Draya listened to her fellow inmates!

Glow – Season 1, 23 June 2017

GLOW, Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling, seems like a hilarious TV show. The main character on the show, Ruth Wilder, is a struggling actress who gets a casting call to be part of a professional wrestling promotion, called GLOW. The fact that it is set in the 80s, with the over the top hair, makeup and outfits, and that it focuses on women wrestling makes me want to watch this show even more. Jenji Kohan (Orange is the new Black) is the executive producer of the show and I have a feeling that this is going to be a hit.

Okja – Film, June 28, 2017

We are so excited that this movie is coming out on Netflix this month. During Cannes Film Festival a lot of buzz was created about Okja by Bong Joon Ho. The director known for The Host and Snowpiercer managed to get a great ensemble of actors, such as Tilda Swinton and Jake Gyllenhaal, who are known to select the less obvious projects, so it must be a sign that there must be something special about this film. The story takes off in South Korea, where a young girl named Mija takes care of a gigantic kind hearted beast for ten years. After discovery and abduction by a large enterprise lead by Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton), Mija goes on a quest to save Okja. The trailer gives us a small peak of this visually stunning film and tell us it’s a definite one-to-watch this month.

New Girl – Season 5, June 30, 2017

This show just cracks me up every time it’s on! With a large number of comedy available on Netlflix, New Girl is definitely my go-to. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and her three male loft mates manage to get themselves in the most awkward, but hilarious situations which slowly develop in a tight group of friends living semi-adulthood life. The show was recently renewed for a 7th (and final) season, but season 5 is added this month and I’m really looking forward to watching a new season of quirky fun.
