Super Easy Focaccia Bread

I was always a little hesitant about making bread. In this case hesitant = lazy, because in my mind it just takes too much time. The kneading, the rising of the dough, it always seemed a little bit tedious and much easier to just buy a good loaf at the bakery. However, since I got a bread baking machine, I really enjoy trying new recipes and it’s just so easy because it does (nearly) all the kneading for you. For this Super Easy Focaccia Bread recipe, the bread doesn’t actually get baked in the machine, but it does take away the prep and most of the rise time for the dough.

The first time I made this focaccia was for my Italian-themed birthday dinner a couple of months ago and it was such a success, it has become an easy bread recipe added to my baking repertoire. Let’s do this!

Ingredients for one Super Easy Focaccia Bread:
  • 350 grams self-raising Flour
  • 210 ml Water
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp dry Yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • Fresh Rosemary and finely chopped Italian herbs
  • Coarse Salt
  • Black pepper
How to Make:

Add water and olive oil to the machine and add flour. Pour salt and sugar each in one corner and make a little well in the middle and pour the yeast into it. Set the dough program on your bread machine.

When the program is done, knead the dough for a couple of minutes and add some Italian herbs. Roll the dough into a ball and roll it out to around disk of approx. 28 cm. Spread it out in a deep dish that has been greased with a little olive oil. Cover it up with a damp kitchen towel and let it rist in a warm place for 20 minutes.

Pre-heat the oven at 200Cᵒ. After 20 minutes push the characteristic focaccia dimples into the dough and let it rise for another 20 minutes. After the second rise drizzle olive oil over the dough, push the rosemary in, grind some fresh ground pepper, sprinkle coarse salt and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Check the focaccia by tapping on it. If it sounds hollow it’s done. I promise this is going to be one of your summer dinner staples. Serve with a little butter or aioli and enjoy!!
