It’s still quite early to proclaim any movie the best of 2016, but I must say that Brooklyn, starring Saoirse Ronan, might just be my favorite movie of the year. I got to see Brooklyn during PAC Festival last February and enjoyed it so much! I thoroughly understand why this movie had three Oscar nominations (Best Movie, Best Actress in leading role and Best Writing), It’s just this wonderful story, set in Ireland and the United States in the 50s and makes you understand what it meant if you chose to pursue a better life, leaving everything and everyone you love behind and crossing an ocean to settle in another country.
Saoirse Ronan, who we got to know many years ago in movies, such as Atonement and The Lovely Bones, effortlessly takes on the leading role, and was the perfect pick to portray Eilis; the young girl from Ireland who finds herself building a life in Brooklyn, New York, working, studying and finding love, whilst continuously being torn between her new life and missing her home country and family. Out in theaters right now and a definite one-to-watch!
